It seems that Barranquilla, my native city, was picked as the American Culture Capital of 2013 by the International Bureau of Culture Capitals! I'm really proud of it!
Why was Barranquilla chosen?
Well, this city has been promoting cultural activities and events during the last years! You can find its roots anywhere in the city, since the Major has been giving special emphasis to that issue. Barranquilla is projecting itself internationally, not only sharing our culture with ourselves but with the whole world. I think that the idea of "Carnivals" is the most meaningful influence in this process of recognition, since all our culture is condensed in that idea.
Barranquilla will receive some economical benefits since it will get a lot of international promotion, increasing tourism exponentially. Of course, the main idea of this benefits is to keep improving the ways Barranquilla shares its culture with the world!
I see a lot of good things coming to Barranquilla the next years!
i agree with you cause barranquilla is growing in the econmocal and cultural way in the international context. the projection of the city internationally has been important to get this recognition of capital of culture of America. i couldn´t agree more with you, talking about the economical benefits like tourrism increase in the city. =D
